Human Tests

1. Exercise: With a partner, conduct the follows tests. You may need your partner to help you count your heart beats and your breaths.

Heart Beats (Heart Rate) *Use your radial artery, the one found in your wrist.
At rest:
1.     Count your heartbeats for 30 seconds.                           
2.     Record.

3.     Repeat for your partner

1.     Jog in place for 2 minutes
2.     Count your heartbeats for 30 seconds

1.     Count your breaths for 30 seconds (you may need your partner to do this)
2.     Record

1.     What controls human heart rates?

2.     Under what conditions can heart rates change?

3.     How is your breathing (respiration) controlled?

4.     Can you hold your breath forever? What would happen?

5.     In what different ways does the body control its temperature?


Sweating and Fever: With a partner or by yourself, conduct the following tests, and answer the questions.

1.      Blow on your arm. How does your skin feel?


2.      Place a few drops of water on your arm, and rub it just a little bit. Blow on your arm.


3.      Does your skin feel any different than when you blew on it without the water? Why?


4.      How does this activity relate to sweat and body temperature?
